Information

Zámecká zahrada (the Castle Garden) belongs to Slavkov Castle, also known as Zámek Slavkov – Austerlitz, the large Baroque chateau in Slavkov u Brna. The town is best known internationally as Austerlitz, the site of Napoleon’s 1805 victory. I can’t search the web here, so treat the details below as general background and confirm specifics for your particular event.

The setting

The garden sits directly behind the castle’s main Baroque wing. It’s a formal, French-inspired layout with lawns, tree-lined paths and a gallery of Baroque statues, with the castle façade as a backdrop. For outdoor concerts, a temporary stage is usually set up in the garden, so the castle often frames the view. It’s one of the more atmospheric open-air venues in South Moravia.

What kind of concerts happen there

The garden is used mainly in summer for open-air events. These range from classical and orchestral concerts to touring Czech pop and rock acts, along with town festivities and other cultural events. The castle and its grounds are also the focus of the annual Austerlitz commemorations around the battle’s anniversary in early December, though those are historical reenactments rather than concerts.

Practical details

  • Getting there: Slavkov is about 20 km east of Brno, just off the D1 motorway. There is also a train station on the Brno–Kyjov line, and regional buses run from Brno under the South Moravian integrated transport system (IDS JMK). The castle is in the town centre, a short walk from most stops.
  • Parking: Parking is in town near the castle, but large concerts can fill it, so arriving early or using public transport is wise.
  • Seating: This varies by event. Classical concerts tend to be seated, while bigger pop and rock shows are often standing or mixed. Check your ticket.
  • Weather: It’s an open-air venue, so bring layers (evenings cool down quickly, even in summer) and check whether the event goes ahead in rain. Many Czech outdoor concerts do, and umbrellas may be discouraged if they block views.
  • Food and drink: Bigger events usually have stalls on site, and the town has restaurants and cafés right around the castle square.
  • Tickets: Events are typically sold through Czech ticketing platforms such as GoOut, Ticketportal or Ticketmaster CZ, or via the castle’s own channels.
